WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY AT WORK?
All jobs are different, right? That is undoubtedly true, and we all have individual personalities, skills and preferences that make us suitable for a particular role. Yet, there are some universal needs we must satisfy at work that go beyond the 'stuff' we do day-to-day. When we launched Luka Bio in late-2019 we thought about those needs for ourselves, and by extension for anyone that was going to join us on our journey. Here are some of the questions we posed...
Is what I do interesting?
Every job we work on is unique. Our clients are often inventing the first job of its kind in the world - because what they are doing has never been done before. We get to work directly with the founding team and they treat us as a trusted adviser on recruitment matters. Every placement counts because it is always a key hire for a small but growing company.
Is what I do meaningful?
Our clients are working on the leading edge of life sciences innovation, bringing novel treatments, diagnostics and apps/tools to a market where no solution currently exists. The placements we make help them to build the foundational team that will drive their business forward. As they grow we come on the journey with them. It's really very rewarding.
Is what I do varied?
Our niche competency is working with high-tech start-ups - for all their needs. This means that we can work across every life sciences sector. No two companies are the same and we love learning about what they are working on. Also, we help them with whatever role is their pressing need - we are team builders. That means we can be searching for a board member one month and an office manager the next - a scientist followed by a business developer.
Do I like who I'm working with?
We think we are nice people... but that is not what this is about. We love working with our clients. They are visionaries, innovators, doers and are always passionate about their business. They are focused on the value that they can bring to the world, and in particular to the patients whose lives they can improve or save. When we help them their gratitude is palpable and 75% of the work that we do is repeat business - which says something about how we are valued.
Will I be able to grow?
Luka Bio is a new company, so you will be joining a small team, but we see enormous potential for growth in a niche that is underserved by traditional recruitment providers. That means that we are looking for people with a desire and potential for growth - who want to contribute to our own evolution and come on the journey with us. Our sector is highly fluid with new clients coming into existence constantly. Also - life sciences is the growth industry of the 2020's.
Will I be valued?
Though Luka Bio is a new company, two of our directors built a business in Australia over 20 years which is multi-award winning for being a "Great Place to Work". This was no accident - we started out by purposefully creating a company that we would want to be hired by, and we never deviated from that strategy. We bring the same DNA to Luka Bio. And Simon is a pretty nice guy too :)

"I joined Luka Bio in September 2021, and I could not have made a better decision.
When choosing the company to work for, I highly value integrity, a supportive environment, flexible working hours, and knowing I can make a difference. We work as a team, and you can always rely on the management. I have the chance to constantly learn, since working with innovative start-ups always brings new challenges, and it is highly rewarding. I am looking forward to growing with the company as more people join us in the future. " SANDRA TAWFIQ |
